Washington State University Libraries

Field Value
Title Icicle Creek Holding Pool
Description This is a view of one of the holding pools constructed along Icicle Creek, where the adult salmon are held until ripe for spawning. Salmon eggs hatch in about 2 1/2 months, depending on the water temperature, and the young remain in the hatching troughs for another 4 months, absorbing its food from the attached yolk sac. Eggs hatch in the early winter, and fry are held in the hatchery troughs until weather conditions permit placing them in the outdoor rearing ponds.
