Here is shown the sharp elbow section which served as a transition between the outlet of the needle valve and the turbine draft tube liner. In the background is the needle valve with its air intake collar attached.
It was the extremely short radius of this bend, and the high velocity of the water as it discharged into it, that rendered the installation inoperable. Two 36 inch calyx drill holes were later put down thru the concrete anchor block in order to admit more air to the draft tube...
