This is a very preliminary design map showing how a dam could be placed at Grand Coulee. Initial excavation for a dam there didn't begin until 1933, by which point several designs had been (and still would be even after digging had started) considered.

Original maps were scanned in color at 600 dpi on a Microtek 9600XL scanner and saved as TIFF files. The TIFF files were converted into the MrSID format at a compression ratio of 12 to 1 using LizardTech's Geospatial Encoder 1.5 software. These MrSid files were then uploaded into the CONTENTdm database at the Washington State University Libraries.
